To our direct Castle Hill community of students, please know that our landlord's liquidation last Thursday was a surprise, even to our landlord. Things happen quickly, and many swift decisions were made on the day.
We understand that you may have some questions, and we're here to provide answers to the best of our ability.
Here are some responses to the most frequently asked questions:
Why didn't you negotiate your sublease with the "main" landlord so you could stay while everything got sorted out?
The lease for the whole building is four times as much as what Nin Yoga is paying. The real estate was also not in a negotiating mood. My self and the other sub leaser decided to leave it.
Was there another sub-leaser? Couldn't you both go in together and figure it out?
The other subleaser for the building took on a building in the same complex that had been vacant for some time for a significant discount on rent. He invited me to join him, but it was an old Beaurepaires, hoists still up and all. It was also a month-by-month agreement. It wouldn't work in the long term.
Why did this happen so suddenly? Wouldn't there be a warning if your locks were going to be changed?
We did not receive any warning in the slightest, and we will not try to figure out why or who to blame any longer. What's done is done.
I've been in denial. I've cried. I've bargained. I've been angry.
Our landlords have liquidated, and they no longer control the business. We have to move.
Will you find another home in Castle Hill?
I always keep my eye on the commercial market, but I did not and still do not have the resources to move—moving costs a lot of money—in bond, renovating, and time. I have a small family and have already invested so much time into the original Nin Yoga Castle Hill. Doing it all again when we opened up Nin Yoga Castle Hill only 3 1/2 months ago gives me an overwhelming feeling of dread.
Will you ever open in the Hills again?
We must focus on recouping our losses for at least twelve months. Castle Hill was really expensive for us to do, and it was still running at a loss. Those we trust, including our gut, have recommended cutting our losses.
What will happen to my membership?
If Nin Yoga Castle Hill was your home studio, we will change your membership status from temporarily suspended to closed. This means you will no longer be charged for your membership. However, if you wish to continue your practice with us at our other two studios, we would be honoured to have you. You can sign up again and join us at our St Marys or Penrith studio.
What will happen to my class passes?
When we found out we had to close suddenly, we gave everyone a 3-week extension (at the time, we thought it might be possible we quickly moved directly into another home).
We would love to invite you to use your passes at either our St Marys or Penrith studio whenever you are in the area, and we will be more than happy to extend your class passes (just let us know in advance).
If using your class passes at our other studios is not feasible for you, that's totally okay. We understand that everyone's situation is different. We can issue you a partial refund for the class passes you have remaining. Please let us know via email, and we will arrange that for you promptly.
Are you selling off anything from Nin Yoga Castle Hill?
Nope! Soz. We are keeping everything (most of it is hardly used!) and utilising it at Nin Yoga Penrith.
Does that mean Nin Yoga Penrith is getting Reformer Pilates?
Yes. We had to move a few humans around (shout out to Sonam and Karen for being so flexible with their creative space), and we have started setting up a Reformer Pilates room within Nin Yoga Penrith.
But don't you already have a reformer there?
We do! One of our other rooms at Penrith is leased out by Dolce Fisher from Live Move Dance, who specialises in "Clinical Pilates." This is actually very different from group fitness Pilates, and we hope to only bring her more students who need some extra TLC.
Will the reformer classes be included in my membership?
Yep!
Oh my goodness? Really? When will the reformer studio release its schedule?
Karen and I are prioritising it on Monday (tomorrow) and will have it all confirmed and launched by the end of the week. This also means the new classes for Nin Yoga Penrith we announced a few weeks ago will also change, as the room we planned to use for our mini yoga studio is now full of reformers.
I've never done reformer; can I still join?
Yep! We will take it easy. Most of us at Nin Yoga Penrith will be totally new to reformer Pilates. We will also have beginner courses later in the year.
What are the benefits of Reformer Pilates?
Our favourite is that it is physically very complementary to a regular yoga practice. It's also really accessible, with lots of different "spring loadings" to choose from and variations depending on what you need.
When and how long will the classes be?
45 minutes, just as they were at our beautiful Castle Hill space. We will start with a handful of classes on the weeknight evening, and then as we fill those up, we will continue to add more as we go along.
Who will teach them?
Many of your favourite yoga teachers are already qualified to teach reformer! Considering we are, first and foremost, a yoga studio, every Reformer Pilates teacher will also be a yoga teacher at Nin Yoga, so you know the reformer vibes will totally line up with our yoga values.
